Connolly Brothers, Inc. has completed renovations on Temple Tiferet Shalom of the North Shore in Peabody, Mass. Affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, Temple Tiferet Shalom (TTS) was established in 2015 with the consolidation of Temple Beth Shalom of Peabody and Temple Tifereth Israel of Malden. Rabbi Evan Sheinhait describes the community as “warm, caring, and inclusive" of Jewish people by birth and interfaith couples and families. TTS recently held a “Let There Be Light" Gala, with the theme pointing to the Biblical passage and the increased natural light now present in the temple.

“The renovations give the community hope and possibility," Sheinhait says. “This is a reflection of who we are in 2023. It enables the community to feel joyful and proud of their sacred home."

Waypoint KLA served as owner's representative for TTS. Design work was completed by OLSON LEWIS + Architects. Notable features include a new grand staircase, new patio and walkways, sanctuary A/V, and stained-glass bimah work.

“The translation of 'Tiferet' is 'grandeur, beauty, and harmony' and 'Shalom' is 'peace,'" Sheinhait says. “The design really highlighted those concepts and it provides that feeling."

Serving as a construction manager on the project, Connolly's renovation work included the installation of new windows, a sprinkler system, security upgrades, and an elevator lift, as well as significantly more space for the temple's early learning center. Connolly also eliminated columns and reinforced supports to make the synagogue's foyer a more open gathering space, reinsulated the building, and addressed structural deficiencies.

“Thanks to a great working relationship with the Temple Tiferet Shalom team, together we seamlessly navigated a complex renovation to an aging structure," says Jay Connolly, president of Connolly Brothers. “It was an honor to deliver a safe, welcoming physical space to match the spirit of this vibrant Jewish community on the North Shore."
